If we adjust our course a few degrees we can ensure a better future
Tom Ledue’s Campaign is guided by an unrelenting commitment to the common good and will propose policy decisions based upon three guiding principles:
- Interdependence
- Partnership
- The Promise of Our Ideals
We utilize these principles to address four broad policy goals to lead us in a better direction. We want to:
EMPOWER OUR PEOPLE
We must protect and promote the Constitution, and our strong foundation of civil liberties and inalienable rights, expanding them to include:
- Environmental Security: The right to a clean, safe environment with renewed focus on food, chemical and consumer safety.
- Universal Education : The right to equitable and effective educational opportunity from preschool through college.
- Universal Healthcare : The right to equitable access to quality healthcare.
STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITIES
We need to support local solutions for critical problems to:
- Make our food supply safer, cleaner and more stable through the support of community based agriculture.
- Claim our energy independence and combat climate change through local clean energy production using solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and ocean power.
- Grow local economies by supporting local industry that relies on local resources and support sound economic policy that values and strengthens our communities over transnational corporate interest.
BUILD A STABLE, SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY
We should reprioritize the federal spending to better address the needs of all citizens. We can:
- Develop more opportunity for the tens of thousands of Mainers that are unemployed or under-employed.
- Build an stable economy based upon clean energy.
- Lead the world in a green technology revolution.
- Gradually implement fair labor and green certification requirements for all imports.
- Shift federal subsidy priorities and purchasing agreements from large corporations to small businesses.
LEAD IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE WORLD
Through foreign policy based upon Partnership, Mutual respect, Human rights, and Environmental stewardship, we should:
- Leave Iraq responsibly, and with honor, through partnership with Iraq and the international community.
- Lead the World by developing an assertive climate change international accord.
- Foster balanced and fair trade policy.
More in Depth:
In the pages that follow we list the core policy ideas and positions that we believe are critical in making these goals a reality. These ideas are the core of our thought that we will bring to Washington. This is not a comprehensive list. It is instead our starting point. As we progress through the campaign, listening to and partnering with the people of Maine we will publish more of our thought. We have organized our policy positions and proposals under each goal according to our 8 core policy areas for ease of reference.
- Empower our People
- Strengthen our Communities
- Build a stable, sustainable Economy
- Lead in partnership with the World
As the campaign continues, we will suggest ways through which greater fiscal responsibility, and a more efficient use of public dollars, we already have the resources necessary to head on this new course. As we prepare documentation for public release, please feel free to submit any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions you have about federal spending and investment priorities. |
