BANGOR — Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Tom Ledue attended the trial in Bangor on Tuesday of six individuals who chose to stand trial for the charge of trespassing in Senator Susan Collins’ office. The “Bangor 6″ said that their cause was to bring light to Collins’ unwillingness to talk to peace activists about the war in Iraq - a war that weighs heavy on our collective conscience, a war that failed any sort of justification.

“The ‘Bangor 6′ are citizens like you and I. They acted in civil resistance to express their frustrations with our governmental failings and our Federal Government has many of these failings to explain,” said Ledue. “I am in the race to give voice to all citizens.

I have talked with people of various economic situations from the well-off to those who struggle to survive and across the board there exists a palpable frustration. There is a looming sense that our country is off course in many areas and that we are not leading in accordance with our ideals. We need to get back to defining what we want our country to be. We need to recall the greatness and promise of our ideals. There is no excuse for not striving to support our people and our communities.

“I applaud the ‘Bangor 6′ for their courage and commitment to search for ways to make peace,” he said. “I promise that in my journey to Washington, I will maintain openness to the people’s voice and transparency in my decision-making and actions while I work to represent the greatness of our ideals.”

Reverberations!

We began by throwing pebbles . . . .Our official campaign is not even four months old but today in Bangor a supporter who met Tom back in February came up to us and said:“Everywhere I go, I tell people to vote for you -thank you so much for running!”

Throw a pebble. $25 and Tom can reach the Twin Cities, $50 to Fairfield, $100 to Houlton

It thrills us to find our message is so widely appreciated in so many different audiences. It is even more enriching when people are willing to share their stories with us. The common theme is that people, our neighbors, are longing to be heard. They want to be represented by people who understand their frustrations; their grief, and their needs. They are refreshed by having Tom at their side.

There is a groundswell. Though we have no fancy polls to show it, though we cannot put a number on it and we can only go on what we see

- support is growing - Join the movement!

TOM ON T.V. - Better than a debate!

As you may know, our democratic opponent has chosen not to debate Tom.

Here is the story.

BUT - MPBN is doing a live radio call in show with Tom on 5/8 AND the live television time offered for the debate on 5/22 will be given EXCLUSIVELY to us!

ALSO - WGAN Radio will be giving Tom the full hour that they allowed for a debate as well!

We are hoping that WCSH will do the same and will let you know.

(We had considered offering Senator Collins the airtime with Tom but she will have to wait until the Fall!)

Change and hope are not slogans or catch phrases they are the message that Maine wants to send to Washington. Tom Ledue will give voice to those who are not being heard by our current elected officials!

Democratic Senate candidate, Tom Ledue, and his family spent this week touring Aroostook County together where his wife, Claire, is from Grand Isle and his mother, Doris, is from Connor.

Ledue, his wife and their four girls stopped in Houlton, Mars Hill, Caribou, Presque Isle, Grand Isle and Madawaska to visit with local business people, dignitaries and hold discussions with residents in their homes.

“The people of Aroostook County need to be heard as well as the people of York and Cumberland Counties. There is only one Maine and our campaigning, economic priorities, and policy decisions need to reflect that. When we look to the future- the farms, energy resources and mills of Aroostook County need to be a vital part of our future for our State and Nation. During our time in Aroostook we will be both listening to people from all walks of life as well continuing to explore the vast potential of this area.

SENATE CANDIDATE CALLS FOR REVERSAL OF US ENERGY POLICY

Released 4/22

Media Contact:
Chelsey Ledue
207-615-7751

Tom Ledue, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, is calling upon the Federal Government to reverse its energy policy to withdraw federal support and promotion of industrial agrofuels.

” As we move away from fossil fuels to restructure our economy around clean energy, we must balance a host of interconnected environmental, economic, health, and social justice priorities. Biofuels, or more specifically, industrialized agrofuels, are neither a short nor long term solution. They offer minimal to no aid in hampering climate change and pollution, have caused food related economic issues and price inflation around the globe, lead to habitat destruction and loss of biodiversity, and fail to liberate consumers from a short term supply and demand price spikes of a combustible fuel commodity. We don’t have time to waste. Each dollar spent on supporting and subsidizing corporate agrofuels is a dollar that cannot be invested in solar, wind, geothermal, hydro and electric infrastructures that offer a real solution to our energy dilemma.”
When both the consumption and production of agrofuels has the potential to cause massive starvation and injustice in many impoverished nations, we can no longer ignore that our actions and policies have global implications. It is time for some active leadership from Washington – no longer can we stand for half-measures.

There is no time to take our time with the growing energy needs required for a strong economy. We need to address the multiple problems caused by fossil fuel dependency through efficiency, innovation, and the mass production of clean technologies that already exist.
